The Story

Nobody had told him about Bibury.

He stumbled upon it early one morning, honey-coloured cottages lining Arlington Row, the River Coln moving silently beneath willow trees, mist still sitting in the valley. No crowds. No noise. Just the most beautiful village he had ever seen.

Tuberose along the stone walls. Jasmine climbing through cottage windows left open through the night. Neroli on the cool air, soft, luminous, arriving before the sun.

Dew on everything. Vanilla warmth drifting from a kitchen nearby. Cedar from walls built centuries ago.

He stood there until the mist lifted.
